Kimtag: The New Business Card

Kimtag is a cloud based connection hub that allows you to put all of your social media links (blogs, webpage, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.) in one place and then share those connections with people through a QR code.

Kimtags can be also be used to publicize events, describe products, send invitations, showcase your resume, etc. Kimtag is free for individual use and is easy to set up and maintain. Kimtags, like QR codes, are read using a smart phone scanner. The site is ad free and allows you to set your privacy level (who can view).

Setting up your Kimtag is easy. Go to http://kimtag.com (getting started page).

1. Choose a kimtag name. (If you choose a three letter name such as ‘Red’, there is a fee involved). Other names are free.

2. Go to the connections page. Enter as much personal info as you like: Your, title, company, about, location, etc.

3. Enter your links and their address, i.e. LinkedIn. You can add, change, or delete links as needed.

4. Decide if you want your site visitor directed to a particular site first. My Kimtag is set to autoconnect visitors to my LinkedIn page.

Then create your very own link hub.

For more information about Kimtag visit them on twitter or at kimtag, com.

Magical Prezi

Prezi is a cloud based non linear presentation tool that has been called ‘power point on steroids’.  It is definitely an adult version of Microsoft Powerpoint. Use Prezi to add drama and flair to your next presentation. The version that I use is free and it offers various themes, frame styles, text color, etc.

Prezi allows for unlimited creativity. You can type in text, add links and audio clips. You can even upload YouTube videos. Prezi will allow you to insert any file that you can convert into a PDF file  such as  charts, spreadsheets and graphs. Images in JPG or GIF format can also be uploaded.

Watch your share settings with this tool. The free version seems to default to public. However, you can change settings to private and public and allow copy.

Listed below is a link to a simplistic Prezi that I created. (Right click and ‘Go to copied address’).

Government Moni…

Government Monitoring of Social Media Sites

The FBI has recently placed a request to tech companies to develop software that can monitor the entire social media network in aggregate. The software would perform like a website scanner. It would monitor Twitter, Facebook, web searches, blogs and open source news networks. Information would be relayed to the agency in real time. The software would also geo-locate the source of the information. The FBI states that this software would not be used to target specific individuals or groups. It plans to monitor the media sites for keywords related to criminal activity.

Other federal agencies (CIA, Homeland Security, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) are interested in data mining the social media websites to pick up information about public opinion or world events. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence wants to include the monitoring of Wikipedia edits and traffic webcams. The Defense Department wants a monitoring tool that tracks social media and weeds out information that could adversely affect troops in the field and counterattack enemy political campaigns that use social media.

CISPA (Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act currently being debated) would require internet companies to turn over confidential customer records and communications to the government upon request.

I do believe that the government needs to take preventative measures against both terrorist attacks – (physical and electronic) and criminal activity in the United States. But how? Do these actions violate our fourth amendment rights? When and how should National Security override these rights?   Should we have any expectation of privacy when we use social media?

Fourth Amendment
